RIP Evel Knievel...

Well it's a sad day today as one of the icons of my youth has passed to the next plane...while I don't really remember seeing many of the stunts live on "Wide World of Sports", you can rest assured I and every other kid in my school knew EXACTLY who Evel Knievel was...and you know all those bike ramps we built were directly influenced by this madman on a motorcycle...I remember my dad having a motorcycle when I was a kid, and he had an American flag helmet that he'd put on me when he took me for a ride around the block...made me feel like Evel...

This_was_one_of_my_all-time_fave_toys!...I ran this thing into the ground! (although I never set him on fire...I couldn't do it to this toy...)
...f!...
...I throw shoe...
So long, Evel Knievel...

Cartoons Rock III...

So we've finally made it to the granddaddy of all Peanuts specials, "A Charlie Brown Christmas"...one of the reasons I love this one is the drawing style of Charles Schulz at this time, which wasn't the cutesy, rounder style he went to in the 80's...then there's Snoopy, and him reading the paper while eating his stack of bones, along with the scene where he mocks Lucy, are absolute greatness...of course, EVERYONE is reminded of the dance scenes, so here's_a_loving_tribute or two...

The soundtrack is on my all-time, stranded-on-a-desert-isle top 10 cd list...for reals...about the only thing wrong with it is it doesn't include the upbeat number they play while Snoopy is decorating his house for the "Christmas Lights" contest...'tis worth a shoe toss...

"Is there anyone, who can tell me, why this is shown in NOVEMBER?!?!"...

...so this special is 42 years old, and the "kid" who voiced Charlie Brown is now 49...wow...

Wikipedia has a really cool article here...

Okay kids...there are a few other specials on the horizon...stay tuned...

Holiday Sale!

So the holidays are upon us, and it's time for our after-Thanksgiving sale...we have decided, however, to take a different approach when it comes to holiday shopping hours:
As a result of our opening time, we will have a different approach to our sale pricing as well:

We have also instituted employee initiatives in an attempt to cut costs and maximize profits:

Thank You! Come Again!

Cartoons Rock...pt. 2...

So here we are just a coupla days before Thanksgiving, and my fave of the Big 3 Charlie Brown specials has just aired...odd as it sounds, this special is actually younger than the Great Pumpkin, clocking in at 34 years old...still, that makes me feel old...as cool as the WWI ace is, and Snoopy mocking Lucy at Christmas, nothing beats the greatness that is Snoopy_setting_up_the_table_for_the_feast...not to mention the superb song "Little Birdie" playing in the background. Vince Guaraldi wasn't just great on the piano, but had a really cool jazz voice to go with it...get a little background on Vince here...being in retail, one of the funniest lines is in the beginning, when C.B. complains about "Christmas already?!" and it isn't even Thanksgiving yet...methinks he was ready to throw a shoe...the only criticism is that ABC cut out the end, where Snoopy and Woodstock share a REAL turkey feast, and split the wishbone...(don't worry, it's in the clip above)...anyhoo, so just one more special to go before we can kiss '07 goodbye...more fun with Chuck's gang next week!...(already?!)

Mikey Mo

Okay, so I know I'm a little late in getting to this, but better late than never, right? Congrats to Mike Modano for being the bestest American scorer in NHL history...It's pretty cool to have seen this happen over the span of 14 years in Dallas, and just the cool goals that he's scored in that time...In my mind, he's been one of the most important sports figures in Dallas in the past 15 years, along with Emmitt & Troy...no one else really seems to have had the impact on not just a team, but a city and region for that matter...would we have hockey in F-L-A or Nashville without the success the Stars and Mo have had? I think it's great, and hopefully I'll get a chance to be there when the team retires his number...yay...

The Ballad Of Sharky Gomez

So I've had a few people ask, "where'd Sharky Gomez come from?" Well, it happened back in the fall of '90, when times were much simpler...no cell phones or I-pods; hell, individual cups of Applesauce were the marvel back then...as I sat in my dorm room at the heart of the Texas A&M campus (Hart Hall, get it?), I hear in the distance: "Shar-ky....Shar-ky...". Of course, only I knew it were me bandmates Ford and Greg, yelling at the top of their lungs in a very echo-y stairway...It was an omen of things to come...soon afterward, we signed our major-label deal, and Greg left due to "creative differences"...which in German means "semester abroad" ...suffice to say there are a lucky handful of fans out there with VERY limited first pressings of our debut self-titled hit, most of whom bear the same surnames as the band members...we managed a reunion show Thanksgiving of '95, but, alas, the magic was gone...we are proud of the fact we played Dallas AND Houston, and received rousing ovations from the 3 people at each gig...who knows, maybe I'll get around to issuing the complete remasters, with previously unreleased live tracks...stay tuned...
SIDE NOTES: 1.) The hair IS NOT a mullet (that came later)...more of a helmet, thank you...think Tears For Fears circa 1986...
2.) No, I am not a hobbit amongst giants...I was leaning against the Taco Cabana that night...
3.) Ford is on the left, and Greg's replacement, Brandon, is on the right...unfortunately, Greg never saw royalties from this release as he is only the subject of a song, and never actually played on the record...

oohhhkaaaayyyy...

(...f these fonts if it takes a million times to make them work...shit!)

Anyway...

So I'm checking out a friend's blog, and figured I'd hit the "next blog" link up at the top of the page there...(yeah, I know you see it)...and lo and behold, I run across this beaut:

Are we talking 10th or 11th grade?...hard to tell...what's a little more obvious is this is one depressed, cynical kid...or a really good writer...or both...

Incidentally, I also found Bollywood cheesecake, and some Hungarian shit...

Stomach Cramps?!

I know I'm not in 7th Grade anymore, but I still eat this shit...in fact, I just got home from my game and was ready to fire up the oven when I saw this...

MENU_CHANGE

...f...

I guess that's what my distended belly last Sunday was all about...

As far as "soft serve" is concerned, the well was mostly empty. But I can assure you The Cramps were live and in concert, with a few encores...
