February 14, 1992

Friday, February 14, 1992 and I'm finishing class for the day at SWT, wondering, "what the hell am I gonna do today?"...nothing's happening in San Marcos party-wise, because it's Valentine's Day and I didn't have anyone to be with...yet...

Next thing I know, my friend Jennifer calls and asks if I want a ride home to Dallas; she's on her way home for the weekend and doesn't like driving alone. "What the hell, there's nothing going on here so yeah." Jenn asked what I was going to do, and I really didn't have an answer...I was just going home to hang out with no expectations whatsoever. Except maybe to have some of Grandma's rice and beans...

So I get home, hang out with the fams for a bit, and gave my best friend Edward a call. He was surprised because I hadn't given him a head's up before I came down. He tells me a friend of ours is throwing a Valentine's party, so I'm thinking "yeah, that's cool, I haven't seen some of these people in a while"...what a great idea...

We get there, and after a while Ed tells me this girl is checking me out...I'm thinking "yeah right!", but he continues with it. Eventually, I casually pass by her and make some smart-ass, "who produced it?" comment, but she has a sense of humor and lets it slide.

All this time, Edward was just pulling my leg, but in actuality she was checking me out...I think it was my long hair...or serendipity. Eventually, we start talking, and before you know it, it's 2 o'clock in the morning (go figure) and she needs to get home.

This party was near Mockingbird and 35, and she lived in Duncanville, so I used that as a way to get a ride home from her...the funny part was, I took her on the back roads through the bowels of West Dallas...she must've REALLY liked me to not have completely freaked out (although she was admittedly a little freaked)

Saturday afternoon was a day full of "will he call/will she call"...we ended up calling each other at the same time, and made a date for that night. Royal Rack provided some fun, and she was a great sport; I'll always have a little spot in my heart for that hole in the wall on Lower Greenville...

It's really hard to believe it's been 20 years, but it's true that time flies when you're having fun. I'm so lucky.
